FLASH Photographic Festival began as an annual event in 2014, with an idea to help promote photographic artists through the presentation of multiple shows over one whole month. FLASH’s vision is to increase the number of artists working in the photographic arts in Manitoba, to increase the public’s appreciation of these art forms, and to educate both artists and the public in techniques and philosophies of photography.

Welcome to Artsy Animals

Hello and welcome to our Artsy Animals submission page! This year, we’re teaming up with the FLASH Photography Festival to highlight the amazing pets in our community. We’re excited to accept a variety of photos showcasing your beloved family pets. Please read the details below and complete the Google Form to submit your pictures!

What Are We Looking For?

We are looking for the following categories:

  1. Best Friends – Some bonds are unbreakable, and that includes the special friendships our pets form with other animals or even their humans! Whether it’s a playmate, a cuddle buddy, or a loyal sidekick, we want to see the heartwarming moments that show just how strong your pet’s friendship truly is.
  2. Sleeping Beauty – Whether they’re curled up in a cozy spot or sprawled out in a hilarious position, we want to see your pet living their best snooze life.
  3. Trouble Makers – From chewing shoes to making a mess, we want to see your pet in their most mischievous moments!
  4. Future Olympian – Whether they’re catching a frisbee, zooming through an agility course, or showing off their high-speed zoomies, we want to see your pet in action!
  5. Road Trippers – Whether it’s napping in the backseat, exploring a scenic stop, or simply enjoying the ride, we want to see how your pet makes your road trips unforgettable.
  6. Other – Have a photo of your pet that doesn’t quite fit any of the other categories, but still deserves a spot in the spotlight? This is the place to share it! Whether it’s a quirky moment, a cute pose, or something totally unique, we want to see the special side of your pet that’s all their own!

How to Apply

Winners will be included in an exclusive photo calendar. Submissions open November 18th and close January 18th! Round 2 will begin January 21st and will end March 4th!

Submission FAQs

What kind of pets am I allowed to submit pictures of?
All pet species are welcome!

When can I apply?
The submission deadline for the first round of submissions is November 18th 2024 – January 18th 2025. Those who submit during this round will be given first priority.

What if I miss the deadline to submit?
Don’t worry, we will have a second round of submissions when you can submit. More information to come.

Can I use Photoshop or Canva?
Yes! Although we encourage you to use more creativity than technology.

How do I win?
During the exhibit, visitors will have the chance to vote for their favourite piece. Those will be chosen and announced in early May.

What is the prize for winning?
We will have features on social media and our website for the overall winner, as well as having your picture published in a printed calendar and a special prize that will be announced on March 29th at our Grand Opening!

Do you keep my picture after the show?
We would prefer if you take your photographs back at the end of the exhibit. You will get a chance to pick up your pieces between May 1-10th 2025.
